Job 9163: Sales Tax Analyst

Location: TX-Houston  
Southwest (AZ, AR, NM, OK & TX)
Salary Range: $90K+++ DOE
Bonus & Incentives: 20% bonus,
Position Responsibilities: Large multinational petrochemical company in Houston area has a specific need in their transaction tax group which is responsible for handling multi-state sales and use, federal and state excise, Canadian GST and PST, gross receipts and miscellaneous taxes for multiple entities operating in many jurisdictions. Primarily responsible for transaction tax audit coordination. Also involved in compliance, general ledger account reconciliations, research, contract and capital project reviews from a transaction tax perspective, vendor tax resolution issues, tax automation system maintenance and special projects. Specific Responsibilities Include: · Handle and/or assist on sales, use and excise tax audits including data retrieval and analysis, reconciliations, sample review, transaction review and research to support taxability determinations, and organization and maintenance of audit documentation. · Perform monthly analysis of use tax accruals to make determinations on overpayments and underpayments of tax and prepare correcting journal entries. Prepare and assist with review of various state and local transaction tax returns and account reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts. · Assist with responding to taxability or procedural questions from various internal departments. · Develop and present training to internal client groups. · Assist with tax language review of sales and purchase contracts. · Maintain desk policies and procedures for various existing processes. Create new procedures as required for work transitioned into existing processes as a result of mergers and acquisitions. Qualifications · Requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of 8 years of relevant tax experience. · CPA license, CPA candidate, CMI designation or advanced degree is preferred. · Heavy sales and use tax audit experience is required. · Specific knowledge of Texas, Illinois and Louisiana sales and use tax laws and regulations as applicable to manufacturers and/or refiners is preferred. · Knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax compliance requirements is preferred. · Experience with an on-line state tax research system is required, preferably CCH. · Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. · The ideal candidate is results driven, strong in initiative, well organized and able to prioritize tasks effectively. · Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, are essential. · Must be able to work well in a team environment and possess excellent analytical skills. · Prior experience with SAP is preferred. · Some travel is required.
Education and Certifications/Licenses: Bachelors, CPA, CPA prefer, CMI designation or advanced degree
Mandatory Minimum Qualifications: Heavy sales and use tax audit experience is required, Experience with an on-line state tax research system is required, preferably CCH, Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
